When was the last time you wrote something substantive — a letter, a story, a journal entry, etc. — by hand? Could you ever imagine returning to a pre-keyboard era?
I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s right before the explosion of the PC. So when I need to write anything substantive, my first instinct is to pull out a pen and a notebook. I write the outline of the paper in my notebook. I jot down the main thoughts by hand. And yet, I don’t remember the last time I’ve written anything substantive by hand.
I used to have a hand-written journal that I kept, but it’s so hard to find the time to sit down and write out everything I needed to. So I switched to keeping an electronic journal on my Kindle. It’s convenient and handy and quicker to type out my thoughts on the Kindle. And if I want to, I can print out my journal entries and put them into a notebook.
When I want to remember something important, I’ll write it on paper. All of my notes, thoughts, ideas, grocery lists, are hand-written.
Although I prefer to write by hand, I can’t imagine returning to a non-keyboard era.
